FAQ: How can I see the products of a LAMP reaction?

Real-time detection of LAMP reactions is achieved by addition of the LAMP Fluorescent Dye and incubation in a real-time fluorimeter. Alternatively, real-time turbidity can be used to measure reaction progress.

For endpoint analysis, reaction products can be examined by various methods, including agarose gel electrophoresis or addition of indicators like calcein, malachite green, or hydroxynaphthol blue. However, caution should be taken with any endpoint method requiring opening of the reaction vessel due to the high risk of contamination of workspace with LAMP products. If visual detection of amplification is desired, we strongly recommend use of our pH-LAMP Master Mix, which uses a clear and robust colorimetric pH indicator to rapidly visualize LAMP amplification from DNA or RNA targets.
